Slurpee
intro
Fizzy, icy, brightly colored homemade Slurpee replicating the iconic convenience store frozen treat, customizable to favorite soda flavors for hot summer days.
Ingredients
Steps
Chill equipment ahead
Place your blender pitcher and 4 reusable serving cups in the freezer for 15 minutes before starting to prevent rapid slush melting. Ensure your carbonated soda is chilled to 4°C (39°F) in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours prior; do not use room temperature soda.
Add base ingredients
Remove the chilled blender pitcher from the freezer. Add 2.5 cups (600ml) of the chilled soda, 2 tablespoons (30ml) of matching flavored syrup, and 3 cups (360g) of crushed ice to the pitcher. Do not fill the pitcher more than halfway to leave room for fizz expansion during blending.
Blend initial slush base
Secure the blender lid tightly, hold it down with a folded kitchen towel to prevent cold splatters. Blend on medium speed (setting 4 on most standard blenders) for 30 seconds, until ice is broken into fine pebble-sized pieces mixed evenly with soda. Pause to scrape down pitcher sides with a rubber spatula if large ice chunks are stuck.
Adjust slush consistency
Add the remaining 2 cups (240g) of crushed ice to the blender. Replace the lid, blend on low speed (setting 2) for 20 seconds, then pour in the remaining 1.5 cups (360ml) of chilled soda through the lid’s center opening while the blender runs. This slow addition preserves carbonation. Blend for 10 more seconds until the mixture is a thick, spoonable slush with tiny uniform ice crystals.
Portion into serving cups
Turn off the blender immediately once the correct texture is reached—over-blending will melt ice and flatten fizz. Remove chilled serving cups from the freezer, pour the Slurpee evenly into each cup, leaving a ½-inch gap at the top of each cup to prevent overflow as fizz rises.
Garnish and serve immediately
Top each Slurpee with 1 whole maraschino cherry, and add a wide paper straw if desired. Serve within 5 minutes of preparation for the best fizzy, icy texture, as the slush will melt quickly at warm summer temperatures.
Tips
2.For bold, authentic flavor, pair classic Slurpee soda flavors (blue raspberry, sour cherry, cola, green apple) with matching flavored syrup, as blending can dilute plain soda flavor slightly.
3.If your finished slush is too thin to hold its shape, pop the filled cups in the freezer for 10 minutes, stirring once at the 5-minute mark to break up large ice crystals before serving.

OMG this is such a game changer! I was so sick of running to 7-Eleven every time my teen begs for a Slurpee on hot afternoons. This tastes exactly like the classic cherry one I grew up with, no weird syrupy aftertaste. Took barely any time to whip up too, I was shocked the total time was only 25 minutes, super easy even for someone who burns toast like me.
Made these for my backyard cookout over the weekend and they were a total hit! I set up a little station with different flavor extracts and toppings so people could customize. Only note is I wish I’d made a double batch, it was gone in 10 minutes flat. SO good.
My kids are obsessed! I’ve tried so many copycat Slurpee recipes before and they always come out too icy or way too sweet. This one had the perfect slushy texture, not too grainy at all. My youngest has a cherry allergy so I swapped in blue raspberry syrup and he thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Pretty solid recipe! Tastes really close to a real Slurpee, though I had to blend it a couple extra minutes to get the texture right, mine came out a little chunkier than I wanted at first. Used Coke flavor instead of the classic fruit syrup and it was chef’s kiss for movie night.
Bro this saved my dorm life. I don’t have a fancy blender, just the cheap $20 one I got at Target move-in, and it still worked! Way cheaper than buying Slurpees between classes, I make a big batch on Sunday and keep it in my mini freezer for late study sessions. 10/10.
Brought these to our neighborhood block party potluck last week and I swear people were asking me for the recipe before I even set the cooler down! I did half cherry half lime for a little twist and it was so refreshing in that 90 degree heat. Only tiny complaint is it melts pretty fast if you’re outside, so definitely keep it in a chilled container.
It’s fine, but not quite a dead ringer for the real convenience store Slurpee in my opinion. I followed the directions exactly but mine came out way sweeter than I expected, almost cloying after a few sips. Next time I’ll cut the flavored syrup by a tablespoon or two to balance it out. The slushy texture was totally spot on though, no weird grainy chunks at all!
This hit so much nostalgia for me! I grew up getting Slurpees after little league games every Saturday in the 90s, and this tastes exactly how I remember them. I added a little splash of sour mix to my batch and it gave it that perfect tang I used to beg for. Will be making this all summer long.
Super easy to make, even for a guy who barely knows how to boil water. I made the mistake of using crushed ice from my fridge dispenser first and it was too watery, switched to the regular ice cubes like the recipe said and it turned out perfect. Great treat to have while watching the game on hot Sundays.
OMG I cannot stop making these! I’ve done cherry, blue raspberry, piña colada, even root beer flavors so far and all of them slap. I bought those reusable Slurpee cups off Amazon and my friends think I’m buying them from the gas station when I bring them to pool days. Total game changer for summer.
My kids loved it so much they asked for it for breakfast? Rude, but totally fair, it’s that good. I let my 4 and 6 year old help dump the ice and syrup in the blender and they thought they were professional chefs making a fancy treat. Super easy, minimal mess, and way cheaper than loading the whole crew in the car to run to 7-Eleven every time they beg for a frozen snack on hot days.
